The Endocannabinoid System
This two-hour self-study is being offered to health and wellness professionals who want to learn more about the endocannabinoid system and its impact on the human body.
Although it was discovered in the 1990s, the endocannabinoid system (ECS) began evolving over 600 million years ago and is the body's internal communication system. It contains chemical compounds called cannabinoids and these messengers cultivate homeostasis and help regulate mood, memory, appetite, sleep, immunity and pain, to name a few. In this course, we'll discuss the inner workings of this elaborate system. We'll review two key endocannabinoids, receptor sites and enzymes responsible for breaking them down. We'll also look at the ECS as it relates to bodily processes and distinguish between tetrahydrocannabinols, cannabinoids, phytocannabinoids and synthetics. We'll review the health benefits as well as dispel some common myths.
